Toitu Te Tiriti (Honur Te Tiriti)

Writer's picture: Braden ClarkBraden Clark

Today marks the anniversary of the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Over the past over the past 180 years, Maori have experienced colonisation and Te Tiriti has not been honoured.

As social workers, it's so important we reflect on our obligations to Te Tiriti, how colonisation has affected our clients and the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

Today shouldn't just be a day off for us.

I encourage us all to spend today reflecting on Toitu Te Tiriti (how we can honour Te Tiriti) and what we can do differently as a result of this beautiful relationship between Mãori and tauiwi that ar Te Tiriti laid the foundation for.
